Magnetic Fields

60 Hz Magnetic Fields, also known as ELF(Extra Low Frequency) or EMF(Electro-Magnetic Fields) can cause equipment performance or reliability problems such as:

  • Video Monitor flickering
  • Audible hum
  • MRI artifacts

In addition, there is a growing concern over the long-term health risks associated with exposure to these fields.

Conventional methods of dealing with EMF's include costly electro-magnetic surveys and brute force shielding that is either very expensive or very heavy - often requiring structural reinforcement.

The PowerLines Advantage

In many cases, EMF's are caused by wiring errors, ground loops, and other electrical system problems that can be corrected without heavy shielding. PowerLines can identify the source of your EMF's and propose cost-effective solutions. In many cases, the solutions involve simple wiring changes or low cost shielding. If you need a more in-depth electro-magnetic survey or brute force shielding, we can point you to reputable organizations that can provide these costlier services.

Our Clients

Amuneal Manufacturing Corporation
PowerLines has reviewed Amuneal shielding projects to assist in the identification of field sources that are difficult to shield or cannot be shielded effectively.

United Engineering
PowerLines identified a magnetic field source within the underground utility service vault that was causing elevated fields within offices of a large office building in Knoxville, TN. By identifying the cause of the fields (wiring and bus bar configuration within the vault), and recommending changes in layout and configuration, expensive (and in this case, probably ineffective) shielding solutions could be avoided.

GE - Lunar Corporation
PowerLines has helped Lunar Corporation and its customers find and correct magnetic fields at medical offices and clinics where the Artoscan MR system is being installed.
